Port Angeles – Want to learn how to adjust your child’s bicycle helmet? Or your own helmet? Here’s your chance to learn by showing support for bicycling at the first annual Bike to Everywhere(B2E) Parade. Teams of “helmet technicians” from our local bicycle shops will demonstrate how to adjust helmets for fit.
The Parade and Celebration starts at 1pm and ends at 3pm on Saturday, June7. Groups of children and riders from organizations need to arrive earlier at 12:30pm. We will be parading on parts of Railroad Avenue and Oak Street.
Want to learn how to safely load your bike on a Clallam Transit bus equipped with bike racks? Come on down and see firsthand how to load bikes on our transit buses. Be multi-modal!
The Parade is a celebration of B2E or “Bike to Everywhere.” Bicycle to school, work, play and shop! All are welcome – bikers, hikers and walkers. If you move on wheels or on foot, you can celebrate with us. Lots of fun, free and prizes – what’s not to like?
The Parade assembles in the lot across the street from the Family Medicine Port Angeles building(240 W. Front) on Front Street just west of Oak Street. Park and make your way to the big red Port Angeles Fire Department hook and ladder fire truck parked on Front Street.
Did we mention prizes? All children that visit our helmet demonstration corral will earn a children’s bicycle license inserted in a PA Parks and Recreation Dept. lanyard. The license will be presented to each child by a member of our City Council.
Also all participants in the Parade will receive a wristband commemorating our first Port Angeles B2E event. Special prizes will be awarded for bicycles that are creatively decorated AND are still safely maneuverable. Other special prizes will be awarded for best outfit, best group, best of every and anything!
Each group and special prize winners will be announced by Andrew May, our “famous” local announcer, as they bike or march past our reviewing stand at Barhop Brewing.
Organized by Port Angeles Likes Bikes, B2E is dedicated to increasing the use of bicycles by our entire community and throughout our beautiful city. The Olympic Discovery Trail, our recreation gem, practically runs right through our celebration.
Got bike? We mean you can ride every kind of bicycle imaginable – road, trail, downhill, BMX, tandem, recumbent, trike, training wheel-equipped, e-bikes, unicycle, etc. Please no motorized bikes of any kind other than e-bikes.
Supported by community organizations such as the Port Angeles City Council and School Board and made financially possible by community businesses and individuals, B2E is an event that helps create a healthier Port Angeles for all.
