PORT ANGELES, Washington (June 4, 2016) – Northwest choreographer, performance artist and current faculty member at Walla Walla Community College (WWCC), Vicki Lloid, has combined professional and student dancers, actors and musicians with the poetry of Tess Gallagher and Raymond Carver for an evening-length dance theater performance titled “Lemonade” after Carver’s poem of the same name.
The performers will give a Studium Generale presentation from 12:35-1:25 pm in the Little Theater at Peninsula College, Thursday, June 16 and the main dance performance the same day at 7:00 pm in Maier Performance Hall.
“Lemonade” will be performed by Kevin Loomer, head of the theatre department at WWCC along with Allie Keppel, former soloist with Spectrum Dance Theater of Seattle. Dr. Edward Dixon, Whitman College music professor, emeritus, will provide cello accompaniment for this moving piece Carver wrote after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. “Lemonade” was published posthumously in “A New Path To The Waterfall”.
Two of Gallagher’s unpublished poems, “Let’s Store These Hours” and “Little Inside Out Dream”, will provide inspiration for the other pieces on the program, the former an ensemble for five and the latter, a duet for Keppel and Lloid.
Gallagher will read both poems at the performance which will be followed by a question and answer session with Gallagher and the performers.
Both events are free and open to the public.
