City’s Highest Honor Awarded

City’s Highest Honor Awarded to Vern G. Burton, Sr. – Ceremony on Jan. 30, 2016

We invite you to join the City of Port Angeles and the family of Mr. Burton at noon on Saturday, January 30, 2016, for a ceremony to unveil Mr. Burton’s Community Memorial Wall plaque and celebrate his legacy. Forever known as “Mr. Badminton,” Mr. Burton had a profound impact on the youth of Port Angeles and dedicated many years of volunteer service to the community.

The Community Memorial Wall was established and erected at City Hall in 1989. The purpose of the Memorial Wall is to recognize outstanding and significant contributions of individuals within the community that resulted in the enrichment of Port Angeles. Additionally, it is intended that inclusion on this plaque be considered more significant recognition than naming or re-naming of streets or parks after individuals.

The Community Memorial Wall is located inside of the Atrium at City Hall, 321 East 5th Street. The ceremony is open to all members of the public. The celebration begins at 12:00 p.m. and will include remarks from Mayor Patrick Downie and Park Commission Chair Dave Shargel.
