The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Clallam County has announced four free public forums to help voters become better informed about candidates for local elections.
- Candidates for Forks City Council, Position 5 and candidates for Charter Review Commission, District 3 at the WA Department of Natural Resources:/Olympic Region Headquarters, 411 Tillicum Lane, Forks, on Tuesday, June 25, starting at 6pm.
- Candidates for Olympic Medical Center (OMC) Commissioner, District 1, and candidates for Charter Review Commission, District 1, at the Sequim Transit Center, corner of 2nd Avenue and Cedar Street, Sequim, on Thursday, June 27, starting at 6pm.
- Candidates for Charter Review Commission, District 2, at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth Street, Port Angeles, on Wednesday, July 10, starting at 6pm.
- Candidates for Port Angeles City Council, Positions 5 and 7, at the Port Angeles City Council Chambers, 321 E. Fifth Street, Port Angeles, on Monday, July 15, starting at 6pm.
The OMC Commissioner and Forks and Port Angeles City Council races will appear on the August primary ballot because there are more than two candidates running for these offices. The top two vote-getters will advance to the general election in November.
It is League of Women Voters’ practice to hold forums only for primary races where there are three or more candidates. Although the Charter Review Commission election will appear on the November general election ballot, the candidates forums are being presented this summer. This will give the candidates more time to become known to the voters, and it allows the League of Women Voters to reduce the number of forums held during the very busy general election season.
All events are free and open to the public. Audience members are encouraged to bring questions for the candidates. Candidates for other offices who are in attendance will be invited to introduce themselves at the conclusion of the forum, after which there will be time for one-on-one Q&A with all candidates.
League volunteers will video-record this forum, and shortly after the event, a link to the recording will be available at the League’s website: www.lwvcla.org.
